Questions and Answers

Why is Digital Citizenship Important?

There are many aspects of the digital realm that can be problematic for employees. The public and permanent nature of today’s technology, individual digital footprints and the promotion of disinhibition and impulsivity make the digital realm a high risk environment for problematic and potentially destructive behavior. Teaching digital citizenship to your employees protects your bottom line by improving productivity and protecting your community image.

Aren’t corporate policies enough?

While policies convey the wishes and interests of the company at large, they often fail to educate the individual employee on how technology impacts their emotional and behavioral functioning. Helping employees understand and balance their personal and professional digital experiences, companies will find improved productivity and psychological functioning of its staff.

How does technology impact psychologically?

A negative correlation exists between degree of technology engagement and subjective well-being. The higher the degree of engagement with and dependence on technology, the more likely a person is to experience anxiety and depression. Other psychological issues associated with technology include addiction and insomnia.

How does technology impact socially?

While technology offers much in the way of accessibility and communication, it can also serve as the breeding ground for negative social interaction that can negatively influence the working environment. Additionally, impulsivity and disinhibition are often associated with technology engagement and can result in behaviors and actions that are inconsistent with real world corporate ideals and values.

Praise for the Digital Citizenship Project

“The only tool I know of that effectively educates company personnel” "In our fast-paced technology-driven world, organizational functioning is heavily impacted by digital engagement. Annually, social media and destructive online behavior negatively influence workplace productivity and morale as well as create liability and public relations challenges for companies driving our economic engine. The Digital Citizenship Project: Corporate, developed by Dr. Eli Shapiro, is the only tool I know of that effectively educates company personnel in the healthy and responsible use of technology that ultimately protects a company's bottom line and their fiscal viability."
